<span style="font-size: large;">Hey all. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">So</span> I've been spending a lot of time on Instagram lately, and I started to realize that I really need to dedicate more time to learning how to take a nice photograph of my work. No matter how pretty the work is in person, if you can't take a nice photograph of your product, no one else will really know! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Now</span>, I am no professional when it comes to photography. I took a simple photo class in highschool and that was that. My parents bought me a nice DSLR camera when I was taking the class, and I've used it ever since. I also, like many of us, have limited space. I go to college which means I live in an itsy bitsy apartment with three other girls who also call it home. We all share the living room and common space, so setting up a shop or studio in there doesn't mix well with study parties and friend gatherings. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Nevertheless</span> I wanted to be able to take nice pictures. So I will let you in on a little secret - I figured out that all you need is "<i>white and light</i>". Seriously. It's that clear cut! I went out and bought a 39cent white board and discovered that our balcony has pretty decent natural light, and <b>voila</b>: my 39cent studio! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Granted</span>, my lighting isn't always exact, the background isn't always pure white, and I'm not infallible. But overall, I think they look pretty good considering. Here are some of the pictures I've taken on my cluttered porch. I like to think that by some sort of miracle they actually don't look like they were taken by a girl in pajamas and mismatched socks standing 5 feet from a stack of dirty dishes and a heap of textbooks. :) </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I</span> hope you all find it in yourself to go splurge on a 39cent white board and find some light in which you can take pretty product pictures as well.<br />

Front Texture (Knit-Like)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It's been a while since I've posted! But fall is upon us, and with it comes cooler temps and warmer clothes. I started crocheting again for the season at the end of September, and I've really gone after it this year. I've got a bunch of different lines, but one in particular is a new product called the Reversible Cowl! It's a thing of beauty. I am so excited about how it turned out. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Last Christmas break I was playing around with some different types of stitches, and I ended up making one of these. I knew it would be super warm because it sits higher up on the face to protect from those awful winds in the winter. So, I started wearing it around some friends, got positive reactions, and decided this year to make some and see how they do at the market! Well, they sold pretty well on day one, which inspired me to write this post and give you guys a written pattern for it. It's kind of a tricky pattern, because I came up with it myself and I'm not much of a pattern-maker, but I'll do my best to tell you how it goes!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b><i><u>Alternatively, if you don't have time to learn a new pattern or would like to buy these, I do have them available on my Etsy! Feel free to contact me on there about purchasing one or more. :) </u></i></b><a href="http://www.prettythingscrochet.etsy.com/">Www.PrettyThingsCrochet.Etsy.Com</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Also, <b><i><u>PLEASE follow me on Instagram</u> </i></b>for updates! I am on there every day, so it's the best way to contact me as well. I post inspiring pictures of my projects and all about what I'm up to in southwest Michigan! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
@PrettyThingsCrochet</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://instagram.com/prettythingscrochet/">https://instagram.com/prettythingscrochet/</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Alright, <b><i><u><span style="font-size: large;">Here's the pattern:</span></u></i></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Use a chunky yarn of your choice or use two strands simultaneously of a thinner yarn you love. You'll probably need around 300 yards depending on your thickness and crochet style. I use a 10mm hook.</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
First you're gonna want to make a foundation row. I crochet a non-chain foundation row of about 30-50 (depending on your crochet style and desired cowl circumference) half double crochets. Then, since I crochet in a "round" for this cowl, I slip stitch the ends together before working back onto it. There really isn't a trick to this, I just stick the hook in where I began and connect it to the end I'm working on.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then what you're going to do is work on a half double crochet into the 3rd loop from the front (There will be one "V" on the front, work behind it into that somewhat hidden loop), but work at it from the front! It's crucial that you work from the front working towards the left with your stitches. You'll yarn over, stick it through the post of the stitch and complete a half double crochet, leaving a "v" shape, as I call it, exposed on the "front" of the cowl. Because you're making a half double crochet, it creates this "third" loop that you stitch onto from front to the back, which makes the other two set up off the scarf in a knit like stitch on the front of the cowl. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
You'll then work in a round for as long as you'd like your cowl to be! Then at the top wherever you want to end, just taper off by doing two single crochets and a final slip stitch before tying off. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
What you're left with is a pretty knit-like texture on the front of the cowl and then a pretty bauble-like texture on the inside! It really is very pretty if you do it right. I'll post pictures below that shows both textures. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I know I'm not an expert "explainer", but as you know I kind of stumbled upon this entire idea by accident! I was just messing around with some yarn one day and fell in love with what I made, and decided to make more. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<br />
Hey everyone! I decided to kill some time and beat this cold, gloomy weather today by turning my bedroom into a dressing room photo shoot. I really enjoy outfit planning, and this seemed like a fun thing to do. I wanted to plan some cute summer outfits that I can wear, and to keep my wardrobe fresh on my mind. I sometimes forget all that I have, but this helps remind me of all the great pieces I already own (so I don't go shopping again!) I'm really feeling a mix of hipster/boho right now, which is reflected in these outfits I'm sure. I'm drooling over my new Express distressed demin shorts, btw. I'll probably be living in them this summer! Hopefully I'll post more outfits in the near future. I made an instagram account ( @TheStripedWall ) specifically for these photos if you'd like to follow and hopefully be inspired to have some fun with your closet as well. Have a wonderful day!<br />

Long time no post. I have welcomed these warmer months, but with warm weather comes a pretty steep decrease in the crocheted infinity scarf market! Thus, to satisfy my crafting cravings I have decided to get my hands busy working on making some cute zip pouches. I just started picturing them so here's a sneak peak of a few!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hrhCd8K5Q3Q/VSrSR_eqKcI/AAAAAAAAAyo/zgdkLBUdQSg/s1600/pocket%2Bcollage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hrhCd8K5Q3Q/VSrSR_eqKcI/AAAAAAAAAyo/zgdkLBUdQSg/s1600/pocket%2Bcollage.jpg" height="640" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
It was so much fun to spend a few hours, if not more, roaming the various fabric stores in my area in search for some cute patterns to make these pouches with! I decided on a about 15 different fabrics because I just couldn't make up my mind (of course). They all are so unique! The one pictured in detail below may be my favorite. I love the slight mint green color, and the intricate bohemian design on the durable canvas is so pretty. I fell in love with this fabric at first sight. I am making some pouches with cotton, some with canvas, and some with a heavy upholstery textile. Some puches are lined, some are unlined, and some are lined with a pocket!<br />
<br />
Anyways, I hope you guys can take some inspiration from these lovely patterns I found, and if you like them enough, I'd love for you to buy one! I have some listed on my Etsy at <a href="http://prettythingscrochet.etsy.com/">Prettythingscrochet.etsy.com</a>! Hop over, give me a follow, and stay tuned for more fun craft updates :)<br />

Now that I am on break from school I decided to start a new endeavor: Mason Jar Covers! I am very pleased with the results! I think these are the cutest decorations in the house this holiday season. The twigs and branches are the final touch to creating a rustic mason jar craft. Hope you all enjoy them! They are on my Etsy shop and instagram! Be sure to check them out there!<br />

<br />
This past weekend I attended my very first Craft Show. While I have been attending the Fulton Street Farmers Market in Grand Rapids, I decided to try something new this weekend and do a Craft Show at the Kalamazo Expo Center. It was a learning experience. I thoroughly enjoyed creating a display that was attractive and welcoming to shoppers. The Expo itself was not a busy as I'd hoped, but I still managed to have a successful show.<br />

I want to extend a warm Thank You to everyone who has encouraged me, bought a scarf, or contributed their time in growing this business. I could not ask for a better support system. The owners and organizers at the Fulton Street Market are so incredibly helpful and kind. The customers and crowd at the market are supportive and always have kind words for me. And my friends and family have helped in every way possible. I have such gratitude for everyone involved in this.</div>

I've been super busy starting my Etsy account and trying to get it up and running! It's been going really well and I've been trying to keep my inventory filled as well. It's been a fun adventure so far just these past couple weeks so I look forward to this season growing! I've expanded my social media to Instagram as well. I will list my shop and Instagram below. Here is a collage of the types of scarves I've been making the last week. These are all available on my Etsy :) I've been selling a few on there and on my college campus and have been throwing around the idea of doing the local farmer's market. Who knows what October has in store (pun not intended). Have a wonderful day!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I decided I wanted to make a dreamcatcher over the summer. I knew almost nothing about how to make them, so I did a little research and found out you can make one just about however you want! So I went out and bought a large ring for the base, some suede to cover it, feathers of a bunch of colors, a few rolls of ribbons, some twine, and various jewelry pieces that I broke down for decorative things. I really like how it turned out! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It took me forever to figure out how to do the weaving on top, but after many many failed attempts and throwing of countless things within reach, I got it the way I wanted it. It took me maybe 6 hours to make this, and while I hate to admit it, around $40. It was far more expensive than I anticipated, but <i>I</i> didn't have any prior supplies. If you have your own jewelry you can break down and can find feathers in a pack, I would recommend that. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The beauty of these is that they don't need to look like they were factory made. They are custom project just for you to catch your dreams, so create it to look however you like! Here are some more pictures! I hope they inspire you to make your own. :) </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Check. This. Thing. OUT. I LOVE this new scarf I made! I bought some more expensive bulky yarn for this project! I had a gift card to Hobby Lobby so I spent it on the more expensive yarn to try something new. I had to buy 3 skeins of some big fluffy super soft red yarn. I am so glad I tried this! I swear this scarf looks store bought. It's so warm and cozy and soft I can't get enough. I made it super super long so I can wrap this behemoth 3 times! 3! It's the epitome of chunky bulky scarves. Plus the color is awesome. MMmmM! I used the same pattern I did on the multicolored scarf:</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Step 1. Chain one row</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Step 2. Double Crochet two rows</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Step 3. Single Crochet two rows</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
(Repeat Steps 2 & 3)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So so so simple, so so so amazing. <3 Here's some more pictures!!!</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Hi everyone! I tried something new today. I made a scarf out of some thrifted yarn! I used 5 or 6 different colors of yarn to make this guy. I also used a different pattern than my normal scarves. I threw in some single crocheted rows to add some variety, and I LOVE IT. It may be my new favorite pattern. So much fun to play around with stitches. I hope you guys like this! I paid $3 for the yarn from goodwill, had a few scrap yards from previous projects, and bought one new skein for $5 for this. So it cost about $8 to make. I had so much fun doing it too! </div>

You all know from my braided scarf pattern that I use double crochets, but for those of you who do not know what that means, I made a video! I show you the basics of getting started! It's not the best video, but I think it's realy easy to follow for those of you who want to know how I make all my scarves. I don't have video editing software on my computer, so I just did one ten minute video. Therefore, I was not able to show you a finished product. However! The scarves in my previous posts use the pattern in the video! To save you from scrolling back to see them, I'll put them all down below. Hope you guys enjoy the video!! Leave comments on it :) I hope to make more in the future once I figure out how to edit my videos and make them more viewer friendly. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
First time I'm showing my face on here! So, I really like this scarf. It was super quick to make and a twist on normal scarves! I got the idea from a pin from the blog <a href="http://bnnbcrafts.blogspot.com/2013/01/try-something-new.html" target="_blank">Baby Night Night Crafts</a>. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I didn't make a pictured tutorial for this one but I will tell you the pattern is:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Start with some chain stitches </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
(depends on your desired length) I have a loose stitch so I believe I made around 60-100</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Double crochet back onto the chain</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Repeat for a total of five rows of double crochets(not including chain)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
x3</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Take your three "mini scarves" and braid them together (I braided them rather loosely!)Then sew your ends to make it an infinity and you're all set! I want to try three different colors next!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2LjBpTrgA48/UQCUJuNsgyI/AAAAAAAAAlE/9yA13vuGNQc/s1600/IMG_6698.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2LjBpTrgA48/UQCUJuNsgyI/AAAAAAAAAlE/9yA13vuGNQc/s640/IMG_6698.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
These shoes were a total experiment. I spotted them at a thrift store and decided that since they fit, were clean, and were an interesting olive color I would buy them for the $1 they cost me. It took me awhile to decide what to do with them, but when I bought this rust colored glitter I thought since the colors went well together I would put them together. I documented the process in the form of a tutorial so if you have a similar pair of shoes you'd like to do this with feel free to follow along. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FN4cHB4ykDY/UQCUAgt0FWI/AAAAAAAAAjk/EAMH_mMOhIc/s1600/IMG_6680.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FN4cHB4ykDY/UQCUAgt0FWI/AAAAAAAAAjk/EAMH_mMOhIc/s400/IMG_6680.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>Materials:</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Shoes (mine are vinyl.. a smooth materials. I don't know how this would work with different material shoes)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Mod Podge</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Mod Podge acrylic sealing spray</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Glitter (super fine)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Sheet of paper</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Sponge</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jJPlhOyNpd0/UQCUBegBkrI/AAAAAAAAAjs/r19IiLNm0hY/s1600/IMG_6682.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jJPlhOyNpd0/UQCUBegBkrI/AAAAAAAAAjs/r19IiLNm0hY/s400/IMG_6682.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
First take your sponge and spread a thin layer of mod podge over the part of the shoe you want to add glitter to. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9E9VEyq9ocY/UQCUCAEAQrI/AAAAAAAAAj0/bLtL-BpJu_I/s1600/IMG_6683.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9E9VEyq9ocY/UQCUCAEAQrI/AAAAAAAAAj0/bLtL-BpJu_I/s400/IMG_6683.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Make sure you sprinkle the glitter on over the piece of paper in order to save the excess. Otherwise you will waste 90% of your glitter. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VKiJOoOG4hM/UQCUDhmCLOI/AAAAAAAAAkE/2WwCyQ-lg2U/s1600/IMG_6685.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VKiJOoOG4hM/UQCUDhmCLOI/AAAAAAAAAkE/2WwCyQ-lg2U/s400/IMG_6685.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Once this layer dries it should look like this.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-l8u4UNAAIWM/UQCUEOPc61I/AAAAAAAAAkM/lKZfhcT34TU/s1600/IMG_6686.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-l8u4UNAAIWM/UQCUEOPc61I/AAAAAAAAAkM/lKZfhcT34TU/s400/IMG_6686.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then grab the next part f the show you want to glitter. I chose the tongue, which was somewhat complicated to grasp while adding mod podge and glitter. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-G6zhFR1sg28/UQCUE008sSI/AAAAAAAAAkU/m4s9x77gxCE/s1600/IMG_6687.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-G6zhFR1sg28/UQCUE008sSI/AAAAAAAAAkU/m4s9x77gxCE/s400/IMG_6687.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is how I added the mod podge</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-eS1RrvZ9JWM/UQCUFl4aA5I/AAAAAAAAAkc/AyfGexUOeJs/s1600/IMG_6689.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-eS1RrvZ9JWM/UQCUFl4aA5I/AAAAAAAAAkc/AyfGexUOeJs/s400/IMG_6689.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is what it looks like after I added glitter and emptied the excess on the paper. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vMo3pkjVkns/UQCUGgWAW6I/AAAAAAAAAkk/c0aJViTVV2E/s1600/IMG_6690.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vMo3pkjVkns/UQCUGgWAW6I/AAAAAAAAAkk/c0aJViTVV2E/s400/IMG_6690.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is what it looks like with the first layer of the main shoe and the tongue done. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hFjC5qi9UFI/UQCUHNGFWsI/AAAAAAAAAks/IknK3cLxtmQ/s1600/IMG_6691.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hFjC5qi9UFI/UQCUHNGFWsI/AAAAAAAAAks/IknK3cLxtmQ/s400/IMG_6691.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
After I let everything dry I added another layer of glitter to each shoe *not on the tongue*</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eHGBuXCJHZI/UQCUIvgwoHI/AAAAAAAAAk8/zcZi9FLUUsA/s1600/IMG_6693.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eHGBuXCJHZI/UQCUIvgwoHI/AAAAAAAAAk8/zcZi9FLUUsA/s400/IMG_6693.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
After those layers dried I sprayed them with mod podge acrylic sealer. It will seal the shoes because mod podge original is water soluble. Once you spray the sealer they will be wearable outside. Follow the instructions on the can for ventilation and so forth. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2LjBpTrgA48/UQCUJuNsgyI/AAAAAAAAAlE/9yA13vuGNQc/s1600/IMG_6698.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2LjBpTrgA48/UQCUJuNsgyI/AAAAAAAAAlE/9yA13vuGNQc/s400/IMG_6698.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And there you have it! An updated pair of shoes. I think my favorite part is the tongue. Even though it's not always visible because I wear bootcut jeans. Here's another picture of me lounging in them, feet up! :) </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-96rSMz9bVo0/UQCUJ7oKP4I/AAAAAAAAAlI/-k8fPPh3qi8/s1600/IMG_6837.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-96rSMz9bVo0/UQCUJ7oKP4I/AAAAAAAAAlI/-k8fPPh3qi8/s400/IMG_6837.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>

<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-E9BVVjW9CHQ/UP3w4SeeyVI/AAAAAAAAAis/uAZZdeGJLmY/s1600/IMG_6733.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-E9BVVjW9CHQ/UP3w4SeeyVI/AAAAAAAAAis/uAZZdeGJLmY/s640/IMG_6733.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
On my day off of school on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day I decided to try making some heart garland. I decided to use them as window treatments for my nook. I made 7 strings in differing lengths. If you'd like to know how to make these, read on for my tutorial! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Ubud1ExrkMY/UP3w1Lw1C1I/AAAAAAAAAhs/6jjzEecG1dI/s1600/IMG_6708.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Ubud1ExrkMY/UP3w1Lw1C1I/AAAAAAAAAhs/6jjzEecG1dI/s400/IMG_6708.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>Materials</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Old book, or pages of a book, or whatever paper you'd like to use</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Heart stencil (mine is made from a note-card)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Pen or Pencil</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Thread</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Scissors</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Sewing Machine</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3NkAhwZx7mk/UP3w1MyO8II/AAAAAAAAAho/lEatBWxacis/s1600/IMG_6709.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3NkAhwZx7mk/UP3w1MyO8II/AAAAAAAAAho/lEatBWxacis/s400/IMG_6709.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>1: </b>Start by choosing the pages you want to use. If they are in a book or notebook cut the pages out as close to the binding as possible. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sbj5bVK_XMY/UP3w1DYoxtI/AAAAAAAAAhk/Vj8jlPk7Kfw/s1600/IMG_6710.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sbj5bVK_XMY/UP3w1DYoxtI/AAAAAAAAAhk/Vj8jlPk7Kfw/s400/IMG_6710.JPG" width="266" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>2: </b>Gather 4-5 sheets of paper at a time and use your heart stencil to trace as many hearts as you can fit on a page. I only wanted hearts with words so I kept the hearts in the middle of my pages. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JAhLVpPG_D0/UP3w1tzdImI/AAAAAAAAAh0/sujCwbnwMDk/s1600/IMG_6713.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JAhLVpPG_D0/UP3w1tzdImI/AAAAAAAAAh0/sujCwbnwMDk/s400/IMG_6713.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>3: </b>Cut your hearts out. Put them in piles of two - You will be sewing them together this way to create the double heart effect. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hE2iUqr_O1w/UP3w2HHWDrI/AAAAAAAAAh8/lMzI1ldkDoU/s1600/IMG_6716.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hE2iUqr_O1w/UP3w2HHWDrI/AAAAAAAAAh8/lMzI1ldkDoU/s400/IMG_6716.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>4:</b> Put your first set of hearts under the foot of your sewing machine and begin to sew. You can back stitch, but it isn't necessary. Make sure to leave some loose thread at the top in order to tie your strands to a curtain rod.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ayACt8Wdb-s/UP3w2V3V7fI/AAAAAAAAAiA/Q-KyWupPXEw/s1600/IMG_6717.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ayACt8Wdb-s/UP3w2V3V7fI/AAAAAAAAAiA/Q-KyWupPXEw/s400/IMG_6717.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>5: </b>Continue to sew the hearts one after another together. I ranged my strands from 14-20 hearts. This will depend on how long you want your strands and how big your hearts are. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2FLa6BBLr5I/UP3w2lBwEcI/AAAAAAAAAiE/x0d-2jvOxbc/s1600/IMG_6719.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2FLa6BBLr5I/UP3w2lBwEcI/AAAAAAAAAiE/x0d-2jvOxbc/s400/IMG_6719.JPG" width="266" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>6: </b>Cut the thread from the bottom of the last heart and untangle your strand. It should look like this.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wt4EaJ8VAzc/UP3w3E0mLCI/AAAAAAAAAiQ/umcP4VrC5-E/s1600/IMG_6720.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wt4EaJ8VAzc/UP3w3E0mLCI/AAAAAAAAAiQ/umcP4VrC5-E/s400/IMG_6720.JPG" width="266" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>7: </b>Bend each heart on the string away from each other to create the double heart effect. Gently do this- do not press extremely hard, just press lightly to separate them. Do this as many times as you like! That's it! Here are some more pictures of my final product.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
This was my first try at making one of those "Bow" pillows with the stretched bow all the way across the body of the pillow. ALSO! It is my first attempt to do a picture tutorial. I hope that if you want to follow along or try it yourself these pictures and instructions make sense :) Scroll down for the tutorial. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I think this pillow turned our great! I do think it may have been better to double the thickness of the bow so it isn't so thin, as it blends into the pillow quite well. Haha. Maybe using a different fabric for the bow would avoid this issue. If you have any suggestions or questions leave a comment below! Thanks for looking :)</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>PART 1: The Knot/Loop</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
(I numbered this part because there are a lot of steps)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
1. Lay your small piece of fabric on your work space</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
2. Fold it in half hot dog style and pin it to stay</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
3. Sew along the open edge</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
4. Flip your tube inside out</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
5. Lay your fabric down so the seam is in the middle on top of your fabric</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
6. Fold it hot dog style so the SEAM SHOWS</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
7. Sew it together</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
8. Flip it inside out</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
9. Done</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tVT56nUus1U/UPzugpHQnII/AAAAAAAAAhE/fQwbPcKSMmg/s1600/IMG_6657full.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="347" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tVT56nUus1U/UPzugpHQnII/AAAAAAAAAhE/fQwbPcKSMmg/s640/IMG_6657full.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>PART 2: The Bow</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now take your medium piece of fabric</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Pinch it to create the center of a bow</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Use the pins to hold it in place while you slid the loop you just made around the bow</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
** If the loop isn't snug enough to hold the bow's shape, take it off, flip it back inside out, sew the seam closer, clip the extra fabric, and turn inside out again until it fits!**</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9LcfUI4qQVc/UPzsjxjOrBI/AAAAAAAAAgA/QiJ7D1w60Qk/s1600/IMG_6662full.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="284" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9LcfUI4qQVc/UPzsjxjOrBI/AAAAAAAAAgA/QiJ7D1w60Qk/s640/IMG_6662full.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>PART 3: Sew the Bow Down</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now take your bow and lay it on one of the big pieces of fabric.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Make sure it is the pattern direction you want it to be in. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Pin the edges down tight on both sides.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Sew the bow onto the fabric on the edges.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>PART 4: Form the Pillow</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
**Not pictured**</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Lay your to large pieces of fabric (one containing the bow) front to front so the pattern (what will be the outside of the pillow) is hidden. Make sure your patterns are both facing the way they need to be so when the pillow is flipped inside out it is correct direction and alignment. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nDSxcinMW1o/UPzskmiZ0iI/AAAAAAAAAgU/oxMxWpcgh3w/s1600/IMG_6672full.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="420" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nDSxcinMW1o/UPzskmiZ0iI/AAAAAAAAAgU/oxMxWpcgh3w/s640/IMG_6672full.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Sew all but one of your edges together- on the last one leave enough room to be able to stuff your pillow.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Flip it inside out *mind your bow!*</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Stuff with stuffing</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Fold under the rough edges on the unsewn seam and pin together.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Sew as close to the crease as you can with your sewing machine or hand. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
That's it! You're done :) Now admire your work!</div>

So I was bored on my Sunday afternoon and started rifling through my Pinboard for inspiration for projects to do that required me to use my brand new sewing machine! I found a tutorial for a hairbow and thought, why not? So, I used some scrap fabric I had from my heart garland and made one. I think it turned out nice. It's probably not that versatile considering the pattern, and I might want it to be a little bit bigger, but for a first run I think I did pretty well. The fabric I used is a flannel material. The tutorial called to use a stiff material, but I went with the flannel instead. *Once I finished this I tried the tutorial with some canvas material and I think it's too stiff, so I actually think that any material would be fine (because it's folded twice and then bunched.. It's got pretty good shape). Anyways I will link the tutorial <a href="http://rookiemag.com/2012/02/how-to-make-a-bow/#">HERE</a>! Ironically her blog is called "Rookie" :) Hope you guys like it. Total cost of project is nothing since I used scraps! All you need is thread and fabric, and my fabric only cost about 50 cents. I'd say you can make this pretty cheap ;)</div>

Hello!<br />
Sorry I haven't updated my blog with any new crafts in the last week or so. I've been really busy with making scarves and headbands! I recently began selling them at my university. I have made ten scarves and six headbands in the past two weeks! It's been incredibly rewarding selling them to my peers, but it takes up the majority of my time. I have exams this week and then I am headed to the pan-handle for vacation, so I won't be updating again until sometime around Christmas. I plan on doing a tutorial for the chevron zipper pouch once I return though! For now I leave you with this picture of some scarves and headbands I have made this week. :) Thanks for continuously checking my blog for updates! Hope everyone has a wonderful holiday. -KristiKristi VerHagehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12318638780643670547noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2338211828268711744.post-54689348022805891992012-11-25T22:56:00.002-08:002013-03-14T23:18:37.201-07:00Old Book to Notebook<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
I took an old hard cover book and turned it into a notebook by using a few simple tools. It was really inexpensive and, although it was a learn-as-I-go project (I didn't really have a game plan going into this), I love it. I saw a lot of tutorials on how to make notebooks out of old books, but none that I liked. Some had book rings, some required expensive tools, and others were just plain wrong. So, I took a little bit of advice from all three and came up with my own version. I have written instructions at the bottom of this entry! It's easy and I promise you can do it. Check it out! </div>

*This project is really easy/cheap, but it is fairly time consuming. It takes a few days because binding pages takes glue that needs to really set. I know rubber cement says it's fast drying, but to bind pages, it takes time. So if you are going to start this, please fully read the instructions before diving in!*</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Materials:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Old book with little to no meaning/worth (I picked mine up for 50 cents at a thrift store)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Scrap piece of canvas material that will cover the binding of your book (*edges folded under*)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Notebook Paper (Enough to fill your book binding (I used almost two packages of loose leaf college ruled)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Paper Slicer (You will need one of these for this project. They are probably ~$8.00 at walmart. You will be cutting the lined paper multiple times, so a pair of scissors just wont cut it (cut. it. ey? ey? yeah you got it.)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Rubber Cement (if you are under 18 you may need an adult with you- I know it's ridiculous- OR you can just go to meijer at midnight to buy it and do the self-checkout. No one on the graveyard shift cares how old you are ;) </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Needle & Thread & Pins</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
X-acto knife</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Two sheets of matching Scrapbook paper (for inside covers)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
*Superglue is optional. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Heavy Books for weight</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
PART 1: PAGES</div>
Step 1: Cut your notebook paper to fit into your book. You can see my from my pictures that I cut mine so that the holes were no longer on the paper, but the red line still showed, and the header was fully in tact. You can cut your paper any way you like. This is probably the hardest part of the whole process because you can really only cut as many papers at a time as your slicer will allow (my cheap one is about 10 at a time) so it can get really monotonous. But try to be persistent and get it all done in one sitting because pretty soon your eye adjusts to the right place to cut and it gets easier.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Step 2: Once you have your pages cut, then you can line them all up. Place them on the edge of a table and place some heavy books on top of the page so they don't move. I tried to use clamps but they bent the pages, so books work better. Then let the edge of the pages you will bind hang JUST off the table. Paint on the first coat of rubber cement. Leave for at least 2 hours. Then paint another coat. Then wait again for 2 hours. Then paint another coat. Then wait. Then paint another coat. Let the last coat dry overnight. Once its dry test your pages to see if thy are all stuck together and wont fall out. If you are all set, then move on. Other wise- repeat the coat and wait process until you pages are bound. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
PART 2: BOOK</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Step 3: Use your x-acto knife to cut out the page in the old book. Yea, cut em right out of there. No need to be shy!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Step 4: Take your scrap book paper and cut them into three pieces: One for the left cover, one for the right cover, and then one that will sit in the binding but will overlap the left and right covers about an inch. Use your rubber cement to glue the three pieces on (left, then right, then center.) </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
PART 3: BINDING</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
(I actually did this part after part 4, but I think it would be easier to do before.)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Step 5: Cut your canvas scrap to fit the binding of your book (I had mine cover JUST the binding so that I could easily sew in the creases where it isn't so thick)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Step 6: Pin the top and the bottom to the book to hold in place. Then pin by pin ( about 2 inches apart) pin down the canvas on each side of the binding. Make sure to fold the edges of you canvas under to avoid an unclean fraying edge. It looks a lot nicer and is worth the extra 60 seconds I promise. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Step 7: Once everything is pinned in place, then start sewing. Yes by hand! It takes about 45 minutes each side. (sounds like a lot, I know but I was watching The Walking Dead, so my timing may be a bit off ;)) It will be hard to get the needle through the book so I used a hard surface to tap it through on each stitch. Try your best to make sure each stitch is equally spaced apart. They should be no longer than a pinky nail width across (like half a centimeter I guess). Oh, TIP** Hide your knots at the end of your threads by tucking them in the fold of the fabric (tedious I know) or in the binding of the book. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
PART 4: LAST STEP (PUTTING IN THE PAGES)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Step 8: Take your bound pages and coat them with rubber cement and tightly place them in the binding of your book (on top of the scrapbook paper, obviously). Make sure this is tight and place the book under the heavy books again to hold in place for at least 2 hours. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Step 9: Take it out and check to see if it is stuck in (It should be stuck pretty well (don't wrench it open, it's going to be somewhat delicate). If there are little pockets where it didn't stick very well (which happened to me) take your super glue and dribble it into the spots -careful not to get it on the other parts of the book- and hold tight (either in your hand or under the books again) for 15 minutes. I know superglue dried fast, but I would rather be safe than sorry, and 15 minutes is no 2 hours. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Step 10: Your book should be finished! Get out a pen and start journaling for goodness sake! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
*Note: If you want to hide your stiches on the inside of your "hinges" you can try putting the binding on before putting the scrapbook paper in (Do steps 5-7 before step 4). Like I said, I learned as I went with this project (No game plan) and I really don't mind the visible sticthes. I'm a big fan of character and tiny details, so I like them, but if you are a morestreamline person, I'm sure it would work to put scrapbook paper over second. Okay enough chatter, get out there and make one!!</div>

I made this Thank You card and it actually has already been put to use! I won't say to who, because they haven't received it yet ;) The inspiration for this card was actually from an album cover-Cage the Elephant anyone? In my mind the "Thank You Happy Birthday" looked like cut out letters. I obviously haven't seen the album cover in a while because it looks very dissimilar to this but I actually love the "Indie/Homemade/Retro" vibe this gives off. On another note, I think I might try making these crafts more of tutorials once in a while, but I really stink at taking pictures of the process because I forget and get too excited about finishing it! But, nevertheless, the written instructions are at the bottom of this entry. Thanks for looking :)</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I hope this long list of instructions doesn't scare you! I promise it's super easy! I just threw in tips to make your time easier and tried to actually explain since I didn't take pictures.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Materials:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Two pieces of cardstock (one brown/paperbag texture & one white/homemade speckled texture)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Two sheets of scrapbook paper (one sparkle glitter paper & one light blue with little white polkadots) </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Mod Podge</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Mod Podge Acrylic Sealing Spray</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
A junk piece of cardstock, posterboard, etc that is at least large enough to cover the card when it's open</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Sponge brush or Paint brush</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
X-acto knife</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Extra fine glitter</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
3 Blank notecards</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Black Gel pen</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Pencil</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Decorative blade scissors</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Glue stick</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Paper slicer ( I use this because I have it, but if you're good at cutting straight lines with scissors, that's fine)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
2 Pieces of regular college-ruled lined paper</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
PART 1: MAKING THE CARD BASE</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Step 1: Cut your brown cardstock in half (hamburger style) to create card size & fold that in half</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Step 2: Take your white cardstock and slice it to size, just larger than what you would like it to be for the inside right side of the card</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Step 3: Use decorative blade scissors to carefully cut the edges of the white cardstock</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Step 4: Glue the white cardstock onto the brown cardstock (right inside)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
PART 2: THANK YOU</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Step 5: Take one piece of lined paper and write out THANK YOU in block writing (I would use a pencil for this part)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Step 6: Place the lined paper on top of your scrap book papers (all separately, so you will cut each letter shape three times, not in one shot) and trace the letters with your x-acto knife. CAREFUL because the knife are extremely sharp- lay a piece of cardboard or an old book underneath where you cut, so you don't harm your surface. ** You dont need to press very hard. Just like if you were writing with a pencil **</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Step 7: Glue each letter onto the front of the card using a glue stick</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
PART 3: GLITTER HEART</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Step 8: Take one notecard and fold it in half. Draw a half a heart on the crease and then cut it out. (This might take a few trys, so you might wanna have more than three notecards) Then take that heart template and place it on the center of the next notecard. Trace it with a pen. (*Don't discard this heart cutout- save it for step 10*) Then Cut out the trace-line using your x-acto knife. TRIM (do not cut to the edge of the heart, leave a decent (3/4"+ edge) edges of notecard so that it fits onto the middle of the white piece of cardstock.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Step 9: *Do this next part over top of the other piece of lined paper( it will catch excess glitter)* Place your cut out notecard onto the white cardstock. Then paint mod podge onto it with your sponge or paintbrush, only in the heart cut out space. Carefully lift the cutout template and sprinkle glitter all over the glue. Then pick up the card and gently tap it onto the paper to release excess glitter. If it is not thick enough (as mine was not) I opted to do a second coat. CAREFUL though, as it can sully your mod podge supply if you double dip, because the glitter WILL come off the heart at this point. Use your template again for the touch-ups if you do them. After you are finished with your glittering, bend the paper in the middle and use it as a means of getting the glitter back into the glitter tube/bottle you used. It's a lot of glitter that you DON'T want to waste!! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Step 10: Take your spare piece of cardstock/posterboard and place your heart cutout, not the notecard, but the heart cut out you saved, and trace it onto the scrap at least two inches from the top left corner. (enough so that if you place the heart cutout on top of your glittery heart on the card, the card will be completely covered. Then go to a ventilated area and a place where things can get ruined ( I recommend doing this in a dorm hallway or outside. Don't do this inside or around ANYTHING you don't want sticky and shiny.) Place the scrap over the glossy heart, don't smudge the heart while you do this, and spray lightly with your acrylic sealer. Do not overspray, just lightly do this to seal the glitter onto the cardstock. A little goes a long way. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Part 4: FINAL TOUCHES</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Step 11: Take your third notecard and use it as a straight edge to draw lines underneath the heart on the white cardstock. I used a black Gel pen which worked really well for this. I wouldn't try to make it perfect, it's supposed to look kind of indie, homemade. So wherever you can add character I would do so.</div>
Step 12: Write your personal Note! That's it! You're all done!<br />
<br />
Comment if you liked the tutorial.. I'll try one with pictures next week if I can but I don't want to waste time if no one reads them! Haha. Please leave a note if you enjoyed this!<br />

This is the Before and After shot. So proud of these! Picked these up for 50 CENTS at a thrift store! Then I found this glitter at a local craft store for $1.00. So, this project is my favorite because I got these amazing shoes for practically free! I used mod podge for my glue- just brushed it on and sprinkled the glitter on. I did two coats on the sides, but one on the heel itself. Then I used mod podge acrylic sealer so they wont melt if I step in a puddle and I won't leave a glitter trail behind me. Check out the rest of the pictures! </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Made these greeting cards out of two pieces of 8 1/2 x 11" cardstock- one in basic cardstock and one in a homemade-like white with specks. Also I used two sparkly pieces of scrapbook specialty paper that doesn't shed glitter (amazing). I used modpodge to glue the white paper inside the brown and to glue the flags on the celebrate card. I used "krazy" glue (basically superglue) to glue the candles into circles (had to let those sit pinched together by clothespins for ten minutes to get it to hold). Then I used a Glue Pen (yeah a ballpoint pen that's ink is glue) to write "Celebrate" and "Make A Wish". I drew a flame shape on a piece of scrap cardstock and then cut it to out, leaving its shape in the cardstock. I used that to then lay on the paper and carefully smudge mod podge inside it to make the flames for the candles. I used glitter on the words and flames. Pretty cute right? Fun Tuesday project. </div>

Allison and I made these coasters over the summer. I took the pictures of the bottom five coasters as well. You've probably seen tons of tutorials on how to make these- ten cent tiles, mod podge, pictures, sealer, felt pads. That's exactly how we did it! It took about 30 minutes total, plus the overnight sealer drying time. These are on our coffee tables in our living room. Hope you like them.</div>
